One of the ‘flashy’ items on my wish list is a Ring Flash.  But until I have $500 to grab one, I’m trying different DIY fixes.  I found this one on a great site for photography tutorials, tips and forums: http://digital-photography-school.com/

By cutting up a plastic milk/water bottle, I made myself a cool little diffuser in under 15 minutes.

(left) w/o diffuser – sharp pic but the colors are blown out and the flash makes Sophia blink.

(right) w/diffuser – colors look great, Sophia can keep her eyes open, light is soft which is great but some of the crispness is noticeably gone.

Once I try it on a person I’ll post more test shots.
